Clara Campoamor: A Voice for Fairness

Hello! My name is Clara Campoamor. I was born in a busy city called Madrid in Spain. That was a long, long time ago, in the year 1888. When I was a little girl, I loved to learn new things. I also loved helping my family. I always dreamed of finding ways to help other people, too.

When I grew up, I worked very hard and became a lawyer so I could help people with their problems. I noticed something that didn't seem fair. In my country, only men were allowed to vote. Voting is when you help choose our leaders. I believed women were just as smart and should get to help choose, too! So, in the year 1931, I stood up in front of many important people. I used my big, strong voice to explain why everyone should be treated the same.

And guess what? The people listened! A brand-new rule was made that said women could vote. I was so happy I could help make the world a little bit fairer. I lived to be 84 years old, and I am remembered for believing in fairness for everyone. It’s important to always use your voice to help others, because even one person can make a big, wonderful change.
