Gustave Eiffel: The Tower Builder
Hello! My name is Gustave Eiffel. When I was a little boy living in a country called France, I loved to build things more than anything. I would take my blocks and stack them up, up, up, trying to make them as high as they could go. I dreamed that one day I would build something so big and tall that it could almost touch the clouds in the sky.
When I grew up, I learned how to be an engineer, which is a person who designs and builds amazing things. My first big jobs were building strong bridges. I used a special metal to make them super sturdy. This helped the big, heavy trains go chug-chug-chug right over wide rivers. It made me feel so happy to help people travel from one place to another and connect their towns together.
My most famous project started in the year 1887. The city of Paris needed something very special for a big party called the World's Fair. I had an idea to build the tallest tower in the whole world! My team and I worked very hard for two years. We put together all the metal pieces like we were building a giant puzzle. In 1889, my beautiful Eiffel Tower was all finished and stood tall for everyone to see.
I lived to be 91 years old. Today, my tower still stands tall and proud in Paris, and at night, it sparkles with thousands of pretty lights. When people visit and look all the way up to the top, they can remember me, Gustave, the little boy who dreamed of building big, wonderful things.
