Just want Jean Piaget?
Hello! My name is Jean Piaget. A long, long time ago, in the year 1896, I was born. When I was a little boy, I was very, very curious. I loved looking at animals and nature. I would watch birds in the trees and little snails crawling on the ground. I always asked questions like, 'How does that work?' and 'Why does it do that?' I wanted to understand everything around me.
When I grew up, I had my own children. I loved watching them play! As I watched them, around the 1920s, I noticed something very special. I saw that babies and little kids don't think like grown-ups. When a baby plays peek-a-boo, they think you really disappear! I realized that children learn about the world by playing, touching, and exploring all on their own. It is like they are little scientists finding things out for the very first time.
I spent my whole life learning about how children's amazing brains grow. I discovered that as you get bigger, your way of thinking changes, too! I lived to be 84 years old and my work continued until 1980. Today, people remember my ideas because they help teachers and parents understand that playing is one of the most important ways you learn. So next time you build a tall tower or make a mud pie, remember you are learning and growing!
