The story

Joséphine de Beauharnais

Hello! My name is Joséphine. I grew up on a warm, sunny island called Martinique, which is very far away. I loved playing outside under the big, green palm trees. I also loved seeing all the colorful flowers that grew there. It was a beautiful place to be a little girl.

When I grew up, I moved to a big city called Paris. I missed my island flowers, so I decided to make my own amazing garden at my home, which was called Malmaison. I collected all sorts of flowers from all over the world, but my very favorites were roses! I became an Empress, which is like a queen. As an Empress, I got to wear the most beautiful, sparkly gowns to fancy parties.

I lived to be 50 years old. People still remember me today for my great love of flowers. My beautiful rose garden at Malmaison inspired many people to grow their own gardens. Some pretty roses are even named after me, so my love for flowers continues to bloom.
