The story

King Philip and His Love for Art

Hello! My name is King Philip. A long, long time ago, in the 1600s, I was a king. I lived in a very big palace in a country called Spain. It was my job to be a good king and take care of my country. I wanted to make sure all the people who lived there were happy and safe. Being a king was a very important job, and I tried my best every single day.

My most favorite thing in the whole world was art. I loved it so much. My big palace was full of beautiful paintings. They had bright, happy colors and made every room feel special. I had a very good friend named Diego Velázquez. He was an amazing artist who could paint wonderful pictures. I would often ask him to paint pictures of me and my family. He painted a very famous picture called 'Las Meninas'. It's a big, beautiful painting with lots of people in it.

Even though I lived a long time ago, you can still see all the beautiful art I loved. The paintings are now in special places called museums where everyone can look at them. I lived to be 60 years old. People remember me as a king who truly loved art and wanted to share its beauty with the world. I hope you can see my beautiful paintings one day too.
