The story

The Man Who Looked at the Sky

Hello, my friend. My name is Manuel Belgrano. I loved my home very, very much. It was a beautiful land with big fields and tall mountains. This special place would one day be called Argentina. I wanted everyone who lived here to feel like one big, happy family. I dreamed of a way we could all show our love for our home together.

I thought and thought about what could bring us all together. I wanted a special symbol for our home. One day, I looked up at the big, beautiful sky. I saw the soft, light blue color stretching far and wide. Then, I saw the fluffy, white clouds floating by. The light blue and the white looked so pretty together. It gave me a wonderful idea. I knew just what to do to make a symbol for everyone to share.

Using my idea from the sky, I made something new. I made a flag. Our flag had pretty stripes of light blue, just like the sky. It also had a big stripe of white, just like the clouds. It was our very own flag. When our brave soldiers held our new flag, I felt so happy. It was a sign that we all belonged together and loved our home. It was a symbol for everyone in our land to see and feel proud of.

Even today, the flag I made waves all across Argentina. It is a symbol of love and togetherness for my country. I lived to be 50 years old. I am so happy that the colors of the sky I saw so long ago still help people feel like they are part of one big family.
