Just want Mary Shelley?
Hello! My name is Mary Shelley. I was born a very long time ago, on August 30th, 1797, in a busy city called London, England. My parents were both very clever writers, so our home was always filled with books and interesting people to talk to. I did not go to a regular school like you might. Instead, I learned everything by reading all the books I could get my hands on! I spent my days reading, writing, and letting my imagination run wild, dreaming up exciting stories about adventure and mystery.
When I was a teenager, in the summer of 1816, I took a trip to a beautiful place called Switzerland. I went with my friends, including a kind poet named Percy Bysshe Shelley, who I would later marry. That summer was very rainy and gloomy, so we spent a lot of time inside watching storms crash over the lake. To have some fun, our friend Lord Byron suggested a contest. He challenged us all to see who could write the best ghost story! I tried and tried to think of a good idea, but my mind was blank. Then, one night, I had a very spooky dream, which some people call a 'waking dream.' In my dream, I saw a scientist who created a living creature. The idea was a little scary, but it was also very exciting!
My spooky dream gave me the perfect idea for the ghost story contest! I began writing right away. What started as a small story just kept growing and growing until it became a whole book. In 1818, my book was published for everyone to read, and I called it *Frankenstein*. People were amazed by my story about a lonely creature and the scientist who made him. My book became famous all over the world. It showed everyone that even a young woman like me could write a powerful story that made people think.

I continued to write all sorts of tales for the rest of my life. I lived to be 53 years old. Even today, people still read my book Frankenstein. It has inspired countless movies, plays, and other stories. I am so happy that my spooky summer dream grew into a story that people still love, and that it helped create a whole new type of storytelling called science fiction. It just goes to show what can happen when you let your imagination run free!
