Just want Mimar Sinan?
Hello! My name is Mimar Sinan, which means Sinan the Architect. I was born a very long time ago, around the year 1490, in a small village called Ağırnas in what is now the country of Turkey. When I was a boy, I loved to watch my father work because he was a stonemason. He taught me all about building with stone and wood. I dreamed that one day I would build amazing things that everyone could see.
When I grew up, I became a soldier and an engineer for the great Ottoman Empire. My job took me to many different lands where I saw so many wonderful buildings. I learned how to build strong bridges to help the army cross rivers and how to design sturdy forts to keep everyone safe. The powerful ruler, Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, saw my work. He noticed that I was very good at building. In the year 1539, he gave me a very special job: I became his Chief Royal Architect! It was my dream come true. Now, instead of just building for the army, I could design beautiful mosques, palaces, and schools for everyone to enjoy.
I got to work right away! I wanted to build things that were not only strong but also incredibly beautiful. One of my most famous buildings is the Süleymaniye Mosque in the great city of Istanbul. It has a giant, wonderful dome that seems to float in the air. But the building I am most proud of is the Selimiye Mosque in the city of Edirne, which was finished in 1575. I called it my masterpiece. It has an even bigger dome and four tall, skinny towers called minarets that reach for the sky. I loved creating huge, open spaces inside my buildings that made people feel peaceful and close to God.

In my long life, I designed and helped build over 300 structures! I built mosques, bridges, schools, and even special channels called aqueducts to bring fresh water to the cities. I lived to be nearly 100 years old, spending my life creating beautiful things. Even though I have been gone for a long time, my buildings still stand today. People from all over the world come to see them, and I am happy that the art I created so long ago still brings joy and wonder to people.
