The Teamwork Helper

Have you ever built a super tall tower with your friends. Everyone needs a job to do. One friend gets the red blocks, and another gets the blue blocks. Or when you go to the park, everyone wants a turn on the swing. It feels good when things are fair and everyone works together. I am like a secret plan for teamwork. I am a helper for big plans. I help everyone know what to do so big, important things can get done. I make sure everything is organized and nobody gets mixed up. I help people decide who does what job, so everything works just right, like a happy team playing together.

Hello. My name is Bureaucracy. That is a big word, but I am just a big helper. A long, long, long time ago, people needed me. In a place called ancient Sumer, thousands of years ago around 3000 BCE, people were building their first big cities. They needed to make sure everyone had enough yummy food to eat. I helped them write down how many bags of grain they had so they could share. Later, in ancient Egypt, I helped organize all the wonderful workers who built the giant, pointy pyramids. I made sure every worker had the right tools and knew what part of the pyramid to build. I helped them work as one big team to make something amazing.

I am still here today, helping you in quiet ways you see every day. I am the system that helps the mail carrier know exactly which house gets which letter. Zip. It goes right in your mailbox. I help your school make sure you have a kind teacher and a bright, happy classroom to learn in. I am the quiet helper that keeps our towns and cities running smoothly so everyone can be safe and happy. When people work together in big groups, I am there to make sure it all works like a beautiful song. I help people do wonderful things together.
