Hello. Do you ever wonder how gooey cake batter turns into a fluffy, yummy slice of cake. Or how a campfire turns wood into warm, glowing light. That’s me at work. I love changing things and making something totally new and exciting. I make the fizz when you drop a tablet in water. I make the sizzle when your food cooks in a pan. I am a Chemical Reaction.

A long, long, long time ago, people met one of my most famous friends: Fire. Around 1 million years ago, early humans learned that fire could keep them warm and cook their food. It was so helpful. They did not know my name, but they saw me turn a tough vegetable into a soft, tasty meal. They watched me change a big log into a small pile of ash. It felt like magic, but it was just me, doing my job and changing things.

Today, you can find me all around you. I am in your tummy, helping you get energy from your yummy lunch. I help make the bright colors in your crayons and the soap that makes fun bubbles in your bath. Scientists use me to create medicines that help people feel better. I am always busy, mixing and changing things to make our world more colorful, delicious, and wonderful.
