The story

I Am Your Amazing Self!

I am the wiggle in your toes when you are excited and the blink in your eyes when you are sleepy. I help you clap your hands to a happy song. With me, you can taste yummy, cheesy pizza, smell the sweet perfume of flowers in a garden, and hear your favorite bedtime story. I am what you use to run super fast in the grass, give the biggest, warmest hugs to your family, and build the tallest towers with colorful blocks. Can you guess who I am? I am all the wonderful pieces that work together to make you, YOU. I am your Body Parts, and I am so happy to be your friend and help you every single day.

For a very, very long time, I was a big mystery. People knew I helped them walk, eat, and sleep, but they had no idea how I worked on the inside. It was like having a super cool toy without any instructions. Thousands of years ago, way back in a warm place called Ancient Egypt, around the year 1600 BCE, some of the very first ideas about me were written down on special paper scrolls called papyrus. Then, in a sunny land called Ancient Greece, a kind and thoughtful doctor named Hippocrates came along around the 4th century BCE. He taught everyone that it was important to watch me carefully to understand how to help people when they felt sick. For many, many years after that, doctors learned about me mostly by studying animals. But then came a time of amazing art and big ideas called the Renaissance. A brilliant artist and inventor named Leonardo da Vinci got super curious. In the early 1500s, he drew hundreds of incredibly detailed pictures of my bones and muscles. A little later, in the year 1543, a doctor named Andreas Vesalius wrote a whole book filled with amazing drawings. His book showed exactly how I look on the inside. It was one of the first times everyone could see a complete map of me.

Today, we know so much more about me, and it is so exciting. Doctors have special tools like X-rays that can peek inside me without even touching you, like magic glasses. They also have powerful microscopes to see my tiniest, tiniest bits, smaller than a grain of sand. The more you learn about me—your heart that beats like a drum all day and night, your lungs that breathe in fresh air, and your amazing brain that dreams big dreams—the better you can take care of yourself. Eating healthy foods and playing outside helps keep me strong. I am your team for playing, learning, and growing up. I will be with you for every single adventure, so let's go have some fun together.
