The story

The Book That Dreamed of Adventures

I am quiet and still, made of paper and ink. But if you open me up, a world of adventure pops out. Inside my pages, a tall, skinny man in clanky armor rides a horse as skinny as he is. He dreams of being a brave knight, fighting giants and helping everyone. He sees big, spinning windmills and thinks they are monsters he must battle. Who am I?

I am the story of Don Quixote. A very clever man named Miguel de Cervantes dreamed me up a long, long time ago in a sunny place called Spain. He used a feather pen to write my first part in the year 1605, and then he wrote my second part in the year 1615. He wanted to tell a funny story about a good-hearted man who read so many books about knights that he decided to become one, too. He even found a friend, Sancho Panza, to ride along with him on a donkey.

For hundreds of years, people have opened my pages to laugh and dream with Don Quixote. They love his silly adventures and his very big imagination. I show everyone that it's wonderful to be brave, to be a good friend, and to see the world as a magical place. Even when you make mistakes, dreaming big is the best adventure of all.
