The story

The Three Musketeers

Can you hear that. It’s the sound of adventure. It’s the clatter of horse hooves on cobblestone streets and the flash of a sword glinting in the sun. It’s the echo of laughter between loyal friends who are ready for anything. I hold all of that excitement inside of me, a story just waiting to leap from my pages and take you on a thrilling journey through old Paris. I am not a person, or a place, or a thing you can hold, except in your hands and in your heart. I am a story, an adventure filled with bravery, secrets, and friendship. I am the book called 'The Three Musketeers'.

My creator was a wonderful writer named Alexandre Dumas. He lived in a busy city called Paris, in a country named France. In the year 1844, he picked up his pen, dipped it in dark ink, and began to write my story. He imagined a time long, long ago, in the 1600s, when brave soldiers called musketeers served as the king's special guards. Mr. Dumas dreamed up a young man named d'Artagnan, who was full of courage and traveled to Paris with a big dream: to become a musketeer himself. Soon after he arrived, he met three of the most famous musketeers of all. There was Athos, who was clever and noble. Then came Porthos, who was incredibly strong and loved to laugh. And finally, there was Aramis, who was quiet and thoughtful. At first they didn't get along, but soon they became the best of friends. They promised to always look out for one another, and they created a special motto to seal their friendship. They would shout, 'All for one, and one for all!'. This meant that if one of them was in trouble, all of them would be there to help. And if the whole group needed something, each one would do his part. They were a team, forever.

When Mr. Dumas finished writing my first chapters, I wasn't put into a book right away. Instead, I was shared with the world bit by bit. Starting on March 14th, 1844, my story was printed in a newspaper. People in Paris would read one part of the adventure and have to wait for the next newspaper to find out what happened next. They were so excited. They couldn't wait to read about the musketeers' next sword fight or secret mission. For more than one hundred and fifty years, my story has been told again and again. I have been turned into movies, television shows, cartoons, and plays for people to enjoy all over the world. My pages hold more than just duels and chases. They hold the magic of true friendship and the importance of being loyal. I show everyone that being brave and sticking together is the greatest adventure of all, and that amazing spirit of 'All for one, and one for all!' is something everyone can share with their friends today.
