Just want Easter Island?
Hello! I am a little island sleeping in the big, blue ocean. The waves splash my sandy shores, and green grass tickles my hills. Can you guess my secret? I have giant stone faces watching over me! They are called moai, and they look like giant, quiet friends. I am a special place called Rapa Nui, but you might know me as Easter Island.
A very, very long time ago, around the year 1200, brave explorers in big canoes sailed across the water and found me. They were the Rapa Nui people, and they made me their home. They loved their families, so they carved the giant stone faces from my volcanic rock to remember them. With stone tools, they chipped and carved until a face appeared! Then, they moved these huge friends all across me, standing them up to watch over everyone. Imagine a parade of stone giants!
Many years later, on April 5th, 1722, which was Easter Sunday, new visitors arrived on big ships. They were so surprised to see my giant statues! Today, people from all over the world come to visit me. They walk among my moai friends and wonder how they were made. I love sharing my secrets and showing everyone the amazing things people can create. I am a reminder that you can make something that the whole world will wonder about forever.
