Just want Poland?
Hello! Can you imagine a place with wide, green forests where giant, gentle bison roam? Picture a long, winding river that wiggles like a ribbon all the way to the sea. That’s my Vistula River. In my cities, you can see town squares with buildings so colorful they look like they’re made of gingerbread. If you listen closely, you might hear the happy, bouncy sound of polka music filling the air. I am a country full of stories, strength, and smiles. I am Poland.
My story begins a very, very long time ago. Over a thousand years in the past, in the year 966, a great leader named Mieszko I decided to bring all the different tribes living here together. He helped everyone become one big family, and that was my official start as a country. I grew into a big, important kingdom with beautiful, strong castles watching over my lands. One of my most famous castles is Wawel Castle in the city of Kraków. I also became a home for very smart people. One of them was an astronomer named Nicolaus Copernicus. Back in the 1500s, he looked up at the stars and figured out a giant secret: the Earth circles the Sun. He changed how everyone saw the universe.
My story has had some tough chapters, too. There was a sad time when my name was even taken off the maps of the world, and I had to be very brave. For over 100 years, I wasn't an independent country. But my people never, ever forgot about me. They kept my language safe in their homes and my songs alive in their hearts. Then came a very happy day. On November 11th, 1918, I returned. My capital city, Warsaw, was once terribly hurt during a big war, but my people showed their hopeful spirit. They worked together to rebuild it, brick by brick, making it beautiful and strong all over again.

Come visit me today. I am a busy, happy country full of life. In 2004, I joined a big family of friends called the European Union. People from all over the world come to explore my ancient castles and hike in my green mountains. They eat my yummy dumplings called pierogi and listen to stories in my lively cities. My story is about never giving up, always rebuilding, and holding onto hope. I love sharing my history and my warm, welcoming heart with new friends. I hope you will come and see me someday.
