The story

Hello, I Am Tokyo

I have super tall buildings that tickle the clouds and parks so green and quiet you can hear a butterfly flutter. At night, I sparkle with more lights than you can count, like a giant box of jewels. I am a city in a country called Japan, and I love when people visit. My name is Tokyo.

A long, long time ago, I was just a small fishing village named Edo. But then, a very important leader named Tokugawa Ieyasu decided to build his castle here in the year 1603. It was like stacking giant, strong blocks. That made me a very important place. Many years later, on September 3rd, 1868, a kind emperor named Meiji came to live here. He gave me my new name, Tokyo, which means 'Eastern Capital.' I’ve had some tough times and had to be rebuilt to be strong and new, but I always stood up tall again, bigger and brighter than before.

Today, I am a city full of wonderful surprises. You can ride on super-fast trains that zip like lightning. You can also visit quiet, old temples where people make wishes. I love being a place where brand-new things and old stories live together. I am a city of tomorrow with a heart from yesterday, and I have so many amazing things to share with you.
