Camille Saint-Saëns

Hello! My name is Camille Saint-Saëns. I was born a long, long time ago, in the year 1835. When I was a little boy, I found something I loved very much. It was music! I especially loved the piano. My fingers would dance on the black and white keys. I loved making beautiful sounds for everyone to hear. It was my favorite thing to do.

I loved animals, too! I thought, what if I could make music that sounds like animals? So, I wrote a special piece of music called 'The Carnival of the Animals.' It was like a big party with music for all my animal friends. In my music, you can hear a big lion go ROAR! You can hear a slow, slow tortoise walking along. You can hear a kangaroo hopping, boing, boing! And you can hear a beautiful swan swimming in the water. It was so much fun to pretend the piano was making animal sounds.

I made music for my whole life because it made me so happy. I lived to be 86 years old. Even though I am not here anymore, my music is! All around the world, children and grown-ups still listen to my songs about the animals. My music will always be here to make you smile and dance.
