The story

Theophrastus: The Father of Botany

Hello! My name is Theophrastus. I lived a long, long time ago in a sunny place called Greece. I loved to be outside, looking at all the wonderful plants. I would touch the soft petals of flowers, watch the tall trees sway in the wind, and smell the sweet grass after it rained. The world of plants was my favorite playground!

I had a very kind teacher and a good friend named Aristotle. He was very smart, and we loved learning new things together. We had a special school with a big, beautiful garden. We would walk through the garden every day, looking very closely at all the leaves, stems, and roots. Aristotle taught me to ask lots of questions, like 'Why is this leaf shaped like a star?' and 'How does this flower get its color?'.

I looked at so many plants that I wanted to remember them all. So, I decided to write everything down in big books. I gave the plants names and wrote about what made each one special. This way, I could share everything I learned with other people. Because I studied and wrote so much about them, some people call me the 'Father of Botany,' which is a special name for the study of plants.

I lived a very long and happy life, for about 84 years. Even today, people who love plants still read my books to learn from my discoveries. I am so happy that my curiosity about the green world helped everyone understand and love nature a little bit more.
