Comparing Numbers (More, Less, Equal)

Do you ever look at your toys and your friend’s toys. Maybe you have two red cars, and your friend has three blue cars. I’m the little feeling that helps you see who has more. Or maybe you both have one teddy bear. I’m there too, showing you that you have the same. I am in every game you play and every snack you share. I love helping you see how things match up. It is a fun little puzzle to see who has more, who has less, or if you have the same amount.

Hello. I am the idea of Comparing Numbers. I don't have a birthday, because I am as old as people. Thousands and thousands of years ago, long before there were houses or schools, people needed me. They didn't have numbers like 1, 2, 3, but they used me to stay safe and full. They would put a pebble in a pile for every sheep they had. At the end of the day, they could match the pebbles to the sheep to make sure everyone was home. They were using me to see if the number was the same. I helped them keep their fluffy sheep safe.

Today, you use me all the time. When you share your crackers, I help you make sure it’s fair and everyone gets an equal amount. When you build a tower with blocks, I help you see if your tower is taller—if it has more blocks than your friend’s. I am your helper for making things fair, for playing games, and for understanding your wonderful world. By knowing if something is more, less, or equal, you are being a super smart problem-solver.
