The story

Merlin and the Sword in the Stone

Hello, my name is Merlin. I live in a time of misty forests and towering castles, where magic is as real as the morning sun. I have seen many wonders, but my most important job was to help a kind boy become the greatest king our land had ever known. This is the story of that boy, Arthur, and the famous legend of the Sword in the Stone.

Long ago, the land of Britain was in trouble. The good King Uther Pendragon had passed away, and there was no one to take his place on the throne. Powerful lords and brave knights began to argue, each believing they should be the next king. The people were worried and scared, wishing for a strong and fair leader to guide them. Seeing all this trouble, I, Merlin, knew I had to do something. I knew that King Uther had a secret son, a boy named Arthur, who was living far away, not knowing he was a prince. He was growing up kind and honest, and I knew in my heart that he was the true king. But how could I prove it to everyone? I needed a little bit of magic to show the world Arthur's destiny. So, on a chilly Christmas morning in the city of London, a miracle appeared in a churchyard for all to see.

There, in the middle of the yard, was a huge gray stone. And stuck deep inside it was a magnificent sword with a shining handle. Written on the stone in golden letters were these words: 'Whoso pulleth out this sword of this stone is rightwise king born of all England.' All the strongest knights and proudest lords came to try their luck. They grunted and groaned, pulling with all their might. One by one, they tried and failed. The sword would not move even a tiny bit. It seemed no one was worthy to be king. A few days later, a big tournament was held, and a young boy named Arthur was there with his older brother, Sir Kay. When Sir Kay realized he had forgotten his sword, he sent Arthur to find one. Arthur, wanting to help, ran through the streets. He saw the beautiful sword in the stone, all alone in the churchyard. Not knowing it was a magical test, he thought it would be the perfect sword for his brother. He gently took the handle, and as easily as pulling a flower from the ground, the sword slid right out.

When Arthur brought the sword to Sir Kay, everyone was astonished! At first, no one believed that this young, unknown boy could have pulled it out. They made him put it back into the stone. Then, all the mighty knights tried again, but still, the sword was stuck fast. Arthur stepped forward once more and pulled it out with no effort at all. It was then that I, Merlin, appeared and told everyone the truth: Arthur was the secret son of King Uther, the true heir to the throne. The people cheered, and Arthur was crowned the new king. He promised to rule with kindness and courage, and he became the legendary King Arthur of Camelot. This story was told for hundreds of years around cozy fires and in grand halls. It taught people that true strength isn't about having the biggest muscles, but about having a good and noble heart. Today, the legend of the Sword in the Stone still inspires us in books and movies, reminding us that anyone, no matter how ordinary they may seem, can have an amazing destiny waiting for them.
