The story

Camille Pissarro: A Story of a Painter

Hello! My name is Camille Pissarro. I was born on a sunny island called St. Thomas a long, long time ago, on July 10th, 1830. Even when I was a little boy, I loved to draw. I would look at the tall palm trees and the bright blue water. I loved to sketch everything I saw in my special notebook. It made me so happy to draw the world around me.

When I grew up, I moved to a beautiful city called Paris in the year 1855. I wanted to become a real painter. My favorite thing to do was to take my paints and my easel outside to paint in the fresh air. I loved painting the bright sunshine on the fields and all the little leaves on the trees. I enjoyed painting the busy life in the countryside. I had friends who loved to paint, too. Their names were Claude Monet and Paul Cézanne. We all loved to paint pictures that showed how the light sparkled on everything.

I painted for my whole life. I made so many pictures of all the places I loved. I lived to be 73 years old. Today, my paintings are in big museums all over the world. When people look at them, they can still see the beautiful, sunny countryside, just the way I did so long ago.
