Just want Isaac Peral?
Hello! My name is Isaac Peral, and I have a story to tell you about a big idea that bubbled up from my imagination. I was born in a sunny city called Cartagena in Spain on June 1st, 1851. My city was right next to the big, blue sea, and I loved watching the tall ships sail in and out of the harbor. When I was just 14 years old, in 1865, I joined the Spanish Navy to become a sailor. I wanted to explore the world and learn all the secrets of the ocean.
As I grew up, I became a naval officer and even a teacher of science. I loved learning how things worked. I started thinking about how to protect my country's ships. What if we had a special boat that could travel secretly under the water? I imagined a boat that was quiet, moved by electricity, and could see what was happening above the waves without anyone knowing it was there. It was a brand new, exciting idea!
After a lot of hard work, the government agreed to let me build my invention. I called it the 'Peral'. On September 8th, 1888, my submarine slipped into the water for the first time! It wasn't like other boats. It had electric motors, so it was very quiet. It had a special tube with mirrors, called a periscope, that acted like an eye to peek above the water. Best of all, it could launch underwater rockets called torpedoes. We did many tests, and my submarine swam perfectly. It proved my big idea could really work!
Even though my submarine was a success, some important people decided not to use it. This made me very sad, and in 1891, I decided to leave the navy. I started a new life with my family and used my love for science to help bring electric lights to cities in Spain. It was a different kind of adventure.

I lived to be 43 years old. Even though my submarine didn't get to sail on big missions back then, my ideas helped show the world what was possible. Today, many people remember me as a pioneer who dreamed up one of the very first modern submarines. And the best part is, my amazing boat, the Peral, was saved. You can visit it today in a museum in my hometown of Cartagena!
