My Body's Superpower: Resting
Resting is what my body does to recharge, just like a tablet needs to plug in to get more power. When I run, play, and learn, I use up my energy. Resting helps me build that energy back up so I can feel strong and happy. For example, after a big day at the park, my legs might feel wobbly and tired. When I sit down and rest, I am giving my muscles time to get ready for more fun.
My body tells me when it's time for a rest. Sometimes I yawn a lot or feel a little grumpy. First, I find a comfy, quiet spot, like my beanbag chair or a soft spot on the floor. Next, I let my body get really still and heavy, like a sleepy cat. I close my eyes and take slow, deep breaths. I pretend my tummy is a little balloon, slowly filling up with air when I breathe in, and getting smaller when I breathe out. I just stay quiet for a little while, listening to my breathing until I feel my energy coming back.
Taking time to rest is important for more than just not feeling tired. It helps my brain think of good ideas for my drawings and helps me listen better when my teacher is talking. When my body is rested, I have the energy to be a good friend and share my toys. Resting is a skill that helps me stay healthy and ready for any adventure the day brings.
